TOP 5: KUNG FU PANDA CHARACTERS
of reading - words
Like many DreamWorks Animation films, the Kung Fu Panda series is filled with memorable characters. The filmmakers did a superb job dotting the three films of Kung Fu Panda from one indelible character after another.
The five characters Following are the best of the Kung Fu Panda series:
PO (JACK BLACK)
As the star of the Kung Fu Panda series, Po is automatically the most obvious choice for the number one choice in this list. But even if he had only made one appearance in Kung Fu Panda or Kung Fu Panda 2, Po would still be a serious contender for the number one pick. The character immediately emerges as a charming, unique and utterly lovable character that the viewer cannot help but appreciate. Jack Black's work on the voice of Po is certainly one of the primary reasons for the character's excellence, with the actor's overwhelming enthusiasm living up to the very best modern animation has to offer.
Memorable line: "I'm not a big panda. I'm the big panda!"
MASTER SHIFU (DUSTIN HOFFMAN)
In the first, Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) doesn't hide his reluctance to drag Po into the ways of kung fu. But as the series progressed, Po was able to win over Shifu through the combination of his hard work and great enthusiasm. The relationship between Shifu and Po eventually shifts from teacher / student to father / son. Hoffman hasn't done a lot of voice work in his career, which is certainly a shame, as the actor does a remarkable job of putting himself in the shoes of this quick-tempered, but fair-minded red panda.
Memorable line: "Well done, students ... if you tried to disappoint me!"
LORD SHEN (GARY OLDMAN)
Although Tai Lung (Ian McShane) of Kung Fu Panda is indeed a formidable and terrifying villain, Lord Shen of Kung Fu Panda 2 manages to outrun him by a very small margin, mostly thanks to Gary Oldman's work on his creepy voice as a character. Oldman brings his notorious intensity to animation with impressive ease, and the actor does a superb job infusing even the simplest of lines with a menacing edge that effectively reinforces Lord Shen's intimidating presence. Of course, as we learn at the end of the film, Po has his own reasons for wanting to see Lord Shen defeated.
Memorable line: "The only reason you're still alive is that I find your stupidity slightly funny."
PING (JAMES HONG)
Ping (James Hong) is a swan goose who has been raising Po since he was a baby panda, while also operating what is clearly the most successful noodle shop in all of Peace Valley. When we first meet him, Mr. Ping is clearly hopeful that Po will one day be ready to run the store on his own - though it inevitably becomes apparent that bigger things await Mr. Ping's beloved son. In Kung Fu Panda 2, Mr. Ping has clearly taken Po's place as the Dragon Warrior and is essentially billed as his son's most loyal and enthusiastic fan.
Memorable line: "We're noodle people. The broth runs through our veins."
TIGRESS (ANGELINA JOLIE)
After Oogway named Po, the Dragon Warrior from the first Kung Fu Panda, Tigress (Angelina Jolie) makes no secret of her displeasure and first blames Po for taking away the title he deserves. But as the film progresses, Tigerss begins to respect Po and the two men become close friends. Jolie does a superb job of portraying an extremely complex character, as the actress delivers a vocal performance that is sometimes both fierce and nourishing.
Memorable line: "No, I mean you have no place at jade Palace. You are a disgrace to kung fu, and if you have any respect for who we are and what we do, you will be gone in the morning."
